Martyn Thompson – Behind the scenes

The newest artist featured in the Luster gallery is Martyn Thompson. Martyn is featured in the likes of British Vogue as a fashion photographer, but has perhaps become most universally known for his exquisite still life work.

“In a Martyn Thompson image the human and the environment are always connected-the ordinary can become something enigmatic. His mastery of natural light is a skill that has made him highly sought after for still life and product photography. “

One of the first set of Thompson images in the Luster gallery is Existence – This image highlights the link between our every day existence and our environment. Here, the mundane ritual of eating cereal for breakfast appears interrupted, as if someone just stepped away from the table. This image typifies Martyn Thompson’s style, displaying an element of being lived-in, a story in progress, despite any human element.

Take a look at the film below, related to the image, to find out more about Martyn as an artist.

GQ Magazine First Look: Gilded Age Spring 2012 Video by Graham Lott

Taking inspiration from a moment in time is nothing new in the world of fashion, but trying to recreate said moment is another thing entirely. With Ernest Hemingway’s time spent in 1920′s Key West as the concept behind Gilded Age’s Spring 2012 collection, the brand wanted to capture that spirit of a beachfront summer on film. Working with a state-of-the-art phantom camera, director Graham Lott captured the G.A. line in precise slow motion in an effect that creates distant, memory-like imagery, but of pieces very much grounded in the here and now. Have a look at our exclusive clip and keep an eye out for Gilded Age’s new shoe line, produced by Chippewa, which will roll out in the coming months.
